Archery Tips > How to PracticePractice is
not just trying to hit the bulls-eye. It is practicing form. You should practice
form as much as aiming. One of the best ways to practice form is shooting with
your eyes closed. Aiming takes a lot of concentration and may take away from
your form. Get real close to your target so you won’t miss and shoot with your
eyes closed. Concentrate only on your form. Then get back at 20 yards and shoot
without a target on your practice butt so you can concentrate on your form. This
will also help to control target panic. You should do this at the start of every
practice. You will be surprised at how much you will improve when you practice
your form.
Stay relaxed while aiming. Let the sight pin naturally float
to the bulls-eye. You are tense if you have to force the sight pin to the
bulls-eye. Your draw length may be too long if you can’t relax because your
muscles are tense when you are extended too far.
Remember that your equipment is closer to perfection than you
are. When something changes, it is more likely you than the equipment. You
should have all of your equipment settings marked or recorded. Check your marks
and records if you are shooting off one day. It is probably you if nothing has
changed. Don’t shoot that day rather than change everything and then have the
same problem the next day.
Don’t shoot if you are frustrated or don’t have a positive
attitude.
Always end your practice session before you are tired and
your groups suffer. You want to end with a positive attitude. That will make you
shoot better the next time.
You can get your muscles into shape by just drawing and
holding your bow rather than over practice.
Practice for hunting season with the cloths and equipment you
hunt with. Adding gloves, bow quiver, or bulky clothing will change things like
the way you grip your bow, bow balance, and your form. |
